Evolution of the Web

As an assignment for EDM 510, I researched the different versions of the Web (1.0, 2.0, and 3.0) and created a product using a web-based tool to discuss my findings. How are they different from one another and how can they be utilized for education? Click the link below to see the final product!

The tool I used to create this product to demonstrate the evolution of the web was canva. A friend of mine recently recommended using their template gallery so I decided I would give it a try!

I began by selecting a template I thought would be compatible with the content I wanted to present. As I began editing the template, I realized that some of the elements in the template were awkwardly positioned but when removed were even less aesthetic. One of the challenges I faced while creating the presentation in canva was my inability to change the colors to something a little less “loud” without changing too much of the theme. The other challenge I faced was compiling information for the presentation. There is so little definitive research about Web 3.0 and clearly still so much is unknown.

As I sifted through articles about Web 3.0, I got an eerie feeling about the future of the internet and how “omnipresent” it has the potential to be. Some would argue it is already that way! I utilize the internet multiple times a day to answer trivial and meaningless questions, but I don’t want the answers to questions before I have a chance to ask. It just seems invasive.

As for canva’s presentation feature, I would definitely use this tool again in the future. There are templates designed for education to business from “cool” to “simple.” There is a template for everyone! As a future educator, I think canva provides a format to be creative and engaging as well as professional. I could use this tool to collaborate with other teachers or provide my students the opportunity to use canva to create and present.

  1. I really enjoyed your presentation using Canva! I think the growth of the internet is fantastic for the basic usage and for education. Unfortunately, there is so much that is on the internet that students can be exposed to, but with guidance from the educators it can still be a safe platform for students to learn and grow their learning experiences.

  2. Hi. I also enjoyed your Canva presentation about the web. It is a good format for presenting information to those who are familiar with the topic, need a review, or need an intro. I especially liked the Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 comparison page. I also think it’s interesting to see how Web 3.0 helps or hinders our lives. The advancement makes me excited, but perhaps a bit leery as well. Good job!

  3. Hello!
I enjoyed viewing your presentation. I have used Canva several times before and I thought your presentation was an excellent example of how to use Canva at a high level with great information. The strength of this presentation is the pacing you use throughout your slides. The information is not jumbled, rather it flows cohesively. Web 3.0 is a very interesting topic, it is great from a student and research perspective as it allows for a greater depth of knowledge on different subject. However, artificial intelligence does raise questions regarding its validity in certain subjects, but like anything else with positives come the negatives. Great work!
